Welcome to the Birdham Pool Berth Holders Association (BPBHA) website

About BPBHA

The BPBHA exists to represent the interests of its members to the Marina management and other relevant bodies. This site is designed to keep members up-to-date with BPBHA activities and to provide access to the Committee and other members.

We hope you find our website interesting and informative. Please let us know if you think it can be improved further.

Birdham Pool Berth Holders Association was formed in 2008 at around the time that the marina was purchased by Castle Marinas Ltd. The relationship between the marina owners and the Association has developed well since and both berth holders and the marina management have recognised the benefits of having a representative organisation devoted to enhancing the experience of keeping a boat in Birdham Pool.

Birdham Pool was originally developed in the late 1930's from one of the last working tidal mill pools in Sussex, and is the oldest marina in the UK.  The original mill building dating from the 19th century still stands, with the access lock beside it.

Affiliated to the
RYA, the BPBHA currently represents a significant numberof berth holders, and takes up issues with management such as security, marina development, access, and general amenities of the marina.

The elected Committee meets quarterly to discuss points of interest and the Chairman also has regular meetings with the marina management team to raise issues of concern or common interest. Information resulting from both meetings is fed back to members.

Membership Benefits

Giving all berth holders at Birdham Pool a single voice for their opinions and suggestions. The more members we have, the stronger our voice – so please join us. It’s easy and economical to become a member, with multiple benefits.

Every member, in return for the modest membership fee, has the opportunity to raise concerns, to propose ideas or suggestions that could improve any aspect of life on the water in Birdham Pool, and to vote on issues at berth holders’ meetings.  BPBHA members can also attend our meetings and social events.

How to join

Membership is open to all boat owners and occupiers of berths in the Pool.  There is a nominal £10 annual fee and the renewal date is on 1st April. Membership forms are available from the Secretary - see contact details for information - and forms are also available in the marina office.  Simply complete the form and post it to the Treasurer at the address shown on the form or hand it to any of the committee located at berths as shown in the contact details.

Have you tried out Universal Marina this season.  If not, you should as part of the Transeurope Marina offer now available to Birdham berth holders. With 15+ marinas in the the UK offering 50% discount off the berthing charge, you should not pass this up. Universal is the closest marina to Birdham, which is in the Transeurope scheme and is located on the Hamble River. half way between Port Hamble and Swanwick. Offering inclusive electricity and water, the marina has all the usual services on offer and also has a small restaurant on site. If you are feeling energetic you could walk up to Swanwick and visit the Jolly Sailor or just take the Pink Elephant ferry from Warsash to Hamble village for a pint in the Ye Olde Whyte Hart.
